McDonald's has released a recipe for its Sausage and Egg McMuffin after fans said they were missing the breakfast treat following the closure of all the chain's UK stores due to coronavirus.

Taking to social media, hundreds of fast food fans have revealed they're desperate to get their hands on the McMuffin, with many attempting the creation themselves.

And while they can't get their hands on the real thing, McDonald's has put fans out of their misery by making the recipe public in an unprecedented step for the chain, which usually keeps its secrets tightly guarded.

In a recipe shared with FEMAIL, McDonald's revealed that all you need is an English muffin, 75g of sausage meat, two eggs and a slice of American cheese.

To make a hash brown for the side, all you need is potato and some olive oil.

'We're not saying it will be as good as the real thing, but for now it's the best way to keep those taste buds satisfied in lockdown,' McDonald's said in a statement.

It comes as dozens of fast food fans have taken to social media to share they miss the McDonald's breakfast, with some attempting their own go at the tasty meal.

HOW TO MAKE A SAUSAGE AND EGG MCMUFFIN AT HOME

INGREDIENTS

  • One English Muffin
  • 75g of sausage meat
  • Two eggs
  • One slice of American Cheese
  • One potato

METHOD

  1. Toast English muffin until golden brown.
  2. Season sausage meat witha pinch of salt and pepper then shape into balls.
  3. Flatten into patty shapes and cook under a pre-heated grill for six to seven minutes on each side (or as per instructions on packaging).
  4. Brush the inside of a metal ring with a little oil and place in a small frying pan.
  5. Pour in just enough water to cover the base then bring to the boil.
  6. Crack the eggs into the rings, cover the pan and cook for two to three minutes.
  7. Assemble your McMuffin by layering the patty and egg on top of a slice of cheese.

To make a hash brown

  1. Grate the potato into a bowl.
  2. Mix in an egg then season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a glug of oil in a pan then add a spoonful of the mix.
  4. Flatten and cook until golden brown on both sides.

Tik Tok user Abbie, who goes by the username @tiktorkers, shared a video on herself making the meal at home, saying it was her favourite quarantine breakfast.

Taking to Twitter, hundreds have shared pictures of their attempt at the treat.

How to make the perfect Big Mac sauce

According to Simon Wood, the following should be combined in a bowl in order to recreate the burger sauce.

200g Ketchup

400g Mayonnaise

30g Dijon Mustard

1 Teaspoon Paprika (Optional if you have it)

½ Teaspoon Onion Powder (Optional if you have it)

1 Shallot Finely Diced

1 Gherkin Finely Diced

Black Pepper and Sea Salt

Food influencer Leanne Loves Cooking, submitted a photograph to Homemade McDonald's Instagram account showing her Big Mac, along with a lengthy explanation of how she made the burger.

She revealed she'd crafted the meaty patty by mixing together a pack of minced beef with salt and pepper before moulding it into the shape of the classic burger.

She then combined a range of condiments including mayonnaise, garlic powder, gherkin relish and white wine vinegar to recreate the signature sauce.

He told parents that cooking the dish could be a way of keeping children entertained while in quarantined.

Revealing that the sauce can be made using ingredients commonly found in kitchen cupboards, Simon explained that they just need to be combined together in a bowl.

How to make a Greggs pasty at home

Just like McDonalds, Greggs has shared how to make their famous sausage bean and cheese melt at home.

In a video shared to their Facebook page they take fans through a step-by-step process on how to put together the much loved melt.

To assemble, all you need is a can of baked beans with sausages, cheese, puff pastry and an egg.

Start by preheating your oven to 180C/Gas mark 4.

Then cut out two squares of puff pastry and egg wash the edges.

The, put the bean and sausage mix into a bowl and mash it with a fork before placing the mixture in the pre-rolled pastry.

Sprinkle the cheese on top and place the other piece of pastry on top, then push down your fork to the edges of the square to seal the parcel.

Do another egg wash across the entire pasty and bake for 20 minutes.
