Obituary for Patricia Ann Jones | Whitt Funeral Home (2024)

Patricia Ann (Head) Jones, 84, of Duncan, passed away peacefully at home with family surrounding her on Friday, April 7th, 2023, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Pat was born on January 16, 1939 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Eldon Thomas Head Sr. and Leola London Head. She moved with her family to Duncan in 1946 where she attended Duncan schools and graduated from Duncan High School in the class of 1957. It was at Duncan High School that Pat met the love of her life, James Stewart Jones (Jimmy), and they were later married on his 20th birthday, August 28th, 1959. Pat and Jimmy moved to Norman, Oklahoma where they both attended the University of Oklahoma and later moved to Oklahoma City where Jimmy attended medical school and Pat began working for a major oil company. In 1961 they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Sherrill Lynn Jones (Sherri), and blessed again in 1964 with the birth of their son, James Craig Jones. The Jones family returned to Duncan in 1966 where Jimmy began his medical practice and they have resided there ever since. Pat and Jimmy were married for almost 64 years.

Pat grew up in an extended family, as the oldest of a large number of cousins. In early years, Pat loved to ride horses and competed in rodeo events, with barrel racing her specialty, on her favorite horse Nancy. In High School, Pat fell in love with Journalism and worked on the Duncan Pitchfork school paper. Pat was very active in the in the community through Traditional Study Club, Medical Auxillary, and Charity events, and loved to perform in Civic Capers. Pat loved her weekly Bridge club with her close friends, and loved sitting crossed legged on the floor playing games with her children and grandkids.

Pat helped introduce sports to her children and became very involved in Duncan Youth and High School wrestling. She never missed a sporting event involving her children and was always the loudest voice in the crowd.

In 1988 Pat's life changed when the first of five grandsons was born, and she officially became "Mema". Stewart Gibson, Tyler Jones, Joshua Smiley, Ryan Gibson, and James Gibson were loved, treasured, and spoiled by their Mema. Pat proved to be a wonderful "boy grandmother". She cheered loudly at soccer, baseball, basketball, and football games. She introduced all the boys to coffee at a very early age, and having a cup of cowboy coffee with Mema was a favorite of all the boys.

After a few years of the boys club, two granddaughters, Ashton Jones Malnar and Adrienne Gibson were born into the family. If Pat was a great "boy grandmother", she took being a "girl grandmother" to another level. Mema and her girls enjoyed shopping, fashion, dolls, and all the other things little girls loved. But she also cheered for the girls at soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, and basketball. And of course, the girls got to enjoy cowboy coffee with Mema as well. Pat's role as "Mema" did not stop with her own grandchildren - most of their teammates and friends also knew her as Mema too, and enjoyed seeing and visiting with her. Even the referees knew Mema.

Pat will be greatly missed and always loved by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Eldon and Leola Head and her brother Thomas Head Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jimmy Jones of Duncan, her daughter Sherri Gibson and husband Greg of Duncan, son Craig Jones and wife Anung of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, grandsons Stewart Gibson of Casper, Wyoming, Joshua Smiley of Cypress, Texas, Tyler Jones of Seattle, Washington , Ryan Gibson and his wife Caitlin of Canyon, Texas, James Gibson and Charlotte May of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ashton Malnar and husband Caleb of Montgomery, Texas, Adrienne Gibson and Tyler Bennett of Duncan, Oklahoma, Reshma Jones of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and great grandchildren Jax, Jayson, Jakoby, and Jaqlynn Gibson, Nicholas Martino, and Harlow Smiley.

Graveside services are planned for 1:30pm on Tuesday, April 11, at the Duncan Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Randy Southerland from New Hope Baptist Church. Pat and Jimmy would like to thank all their friends for their loving thoughts and prayers.
