Recently, there has been a flurry of federal #NIL bills introduced by various members of Congress in response to the NCAA and its President Charlie Baker aggressively lobbying Congress for a federal NIL standard. Sens.Cory Booker(D-NJ), Richard Blumenthal(D-CT), and Jerry Moran(R-KS) released a discussion draft of a bipartisan NIL bill last week. Yesterday, Sens. Tommy Tuberville(R-AL) andJoe Manchin(D-WV)releaseda bipartisan NIL bill. Today, Sen.Chris Murphy(D-CT) and CongresswomanLori Trahan(D-MA)reintroducedtheir federal NIL bill. While you could argue that the recent wave of NIL bills is a sign of progress, the chances of a federal NIL bill actually being passed anytime soon are very slim. Congress is about to start its August recess. Once back from its August recess, election season will kick-off and NIL will likely be put on the back burner. Also, an NIL bill has never even been voted on in either the Senate or House as Democrats and Republicans continue to disagree on much of the language being introduced in these bills. #NIL #collegesports #sportslaw

Student teaching is hard, especially when you're not getting paid and have to support yourself and your family. That's why it's crucial to support Illinois' proposed law, which would pay student teachers. Signing this witness slip would provide equitable access to student teaching for potential teachers of all different financial backgrounds and needs. This law would also help to address our teacher shortage across Illinois. Student teaching should be a time to learn in community with veteran teachers, without the stress of figuring out how to pay your bills. Let's work together to make student teaching accessible to all aspiring teachers. Sign the witness slip today! #IllinoisTeachers #StudentTeaching #EquitableAccess #TeacherShortage https://lnkd.in/gGkvvCxg

You might enjoy my latest in the Detroit News. It addresses some important policy discussions and state comparisons that were not included in the Growing Michigan Together Council report. Where are former Michiganders moving when they leave? What policy decisions make up the DNA of high in-migration states like Texas and Florida? How can Michigan add more of those ideas to its policy choices? What we know from 16 years of our research in Rich States, Poor States is that Americans will continue to “vote with their feet” towards the states that embrace lower taxes and economic opportunity for all.
